The Arts Unit and Sydney Region Arts Unit
The Arts Unit and Sydney Region Arts Unit are sub-units of NSW Department of Education and Communites. The programs they deliver are an extension of arts education delivered in NSW Public Schools. Please see the information below and visit each website for more information.

The Arts Unit provides arts education to children attending NSW public schools. It delivers programs in dance, drama, music, visual arts, debating, public speaking, reading, spelling and special events. In previous years students from SHPS were involved in many of the following Arts Unit activities:
NSW Public Schools String Sinfonia (*)
NSW Public Schools Symphonic Wind Orchestra (*)
NSW Public Schools Junior Singers (*)
Junior State Music camp (*)
Festival of Instrumental Music (selected members of the SHPS Senior Recorder Group, Chamber & Symphony Orchestra)
Festival of Choral Music (selected members of the SHPS Senior Choir)
Primary Proms (selected members of the SHPS Intermediate Choir)
Schools Spectacular (selected members of the SHPS Senior choir)
Premier's Spelling Bee

Other opportunities SHPS students participate in include;
Sydney Region Recorder
Sydney South East Symphonic Winds band
Sydney Region Orchestra
Create East (3 consecutive days of workshops, culminating in a high quality professional musical production)
Please note that places are limited and often there is a selection process and/or audition. Please talk to your child's tutor or ensemble director about his/ her suitability for particular programs.
